‘I’ve Never Been So Disrespected In My Life’: Woman Shares Her Most Terrible Job Interview Experience That Was Full Of Red Flags

Job interviews are often stressful for the candidates applying. We rehearse our answers to questions we expect to receive to avoid any surprises and do our research on the company to ensure we sound well prepared, but one scenario we often don’t anticipate is realizing that we just don’t like the company. A job interview is a two-way street, after all, so there’s no point in taking a job if you had an awful experience at the interview.

One woman, Natalya Haddix, recently detailed on TikTok her negative experience during the interview process at a potential job. After being frustrated and confused by many factors, Natalya ended up walking out before she had even completed the interview. After she shared the experience online, however, not all viewers agreed with Natalya’s reasoning.

If a company wants to gain new workers, it’s vital that they conduct their interviews in a way that makes potential employees feel safe, comfortable and excited about the possibility of working there. We all need jobs to pay our bills and put food on the table, but especially nowadays, amidst the Great Resignation, employees are not willing to settle for just anything. Natalya had every right to walk out of this interview when she decided that she just was not feeling great about the whole thing.

And while viewers are split about whether or not Natalya was being reasonable or dramatic about her issues with this company, there is no question that all businesses should know how to conduct a professional interview, whatever that means to them. According to a piece Rebecca Knight wrote for Harvard Business Review, the interview process is extremely important for employers to focus on.

John Sullivan, an HR expert and professor of management at San Francisco State University, warns that if a company’s interview process leaves a bad taste in candidates’ mouths, “They will roll their eyes and find other opportunities.” So how can hiring managers prevent this from happening? Step one is to be prepared with relevant questions. Employers can create a list of the most important attributes they want their new hires to have, based on what they value in their current staff, and then create their interview questions aimed at making sure they find people with similar skills and work ethics.

Another great way to keep candidates’ stress levels low and ensure they perform well during the interview is letting them know some of the topics that will be discussed ahead of time. It’s also helpful to be flexible and willing to meet at a time that’s convenient for them. Employers can even fill candidates in on things like the office’s dress code and what the building looks like, so there are as few surprises as possible when the actual interview arrives.

And when it comes to things to avoid when interviewing candidates, employers should never forget to prepare for their interviews. They should know what they’re looking for when the interview begins. It can also be a bad idea to get too many colleagues involved in the interview process. Too many cooks in the kitchen can make decision making hard or stress an applicant out. Finally, be careful not to focus too much on ‘cultural fit’ as people can always adapt.

We would love to hear your thoughts down below on Natalya’s video. Would you have walked out of this interview process as well, or did it sound perfectly fine to you? Regardless of what you think about her decision, however, it’s important for everyone to feel confident and comfortable where they end up working. So I hope for her sake that she is able to find a job that she genuinely enjoys.

Viewers are split about the situation, with some agreeing with Natalya and others noting that there is a generational divide
