Japanese artist believes these stones decide what animal she paints on them

Akie Nakata, who calls herself Stone Artist, has an amazing view of stones. While most of us don’t really pay much attention to them, Akie treats them with so much respect.

She believes that despite not being exactly a living organism like plants and animals, stones have stories to tell as they have been on earth to witness so many centuries unfold and they have undergone so many transformations from their original form.

Akie’s process of painting animals on stones can be compared to a make-up artist painting the face of a celebrity or a tattoo artist to a customer. There’s a connection between the two. There’s an understanding on what look or tattoo they aim to achieve. She paints the eyes last as she considers this the final step to bringing these stones to life.
