Jim Carrey Adds Some Drama To His Classic Comedic Lines, And People Love It

Legendary actor and comedian Jim Carrey is unforgettable. He makes sure of that. Whether we accidentally see Yes Man on the TV or have a sudden, unexplainable, animalistic urge to watch Ace Ventura for the tenth time, Carrey finds his way into our lives one way or another.

However, most recently, the actor’s making headlines for his appearance on The Late Show, hosted by Stephen Colbert. The host challenged Carrey to recreate some of his most famous lines from his comedies (including Ace Ventura, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber) and put a more serious, dramatic spin on them.

Did we mention that 58-year-old Jim literally paraded and danced his way onto the scene of The Late Show with a band? And that he had a big purple umbrella with golden frills? Yes, indeed. The actor still knows how to make an entrance and instantly grab your attention. His love of spectacle hasn’t gone away, either. If anything, it just got more refined.

The lucky people who were in The Late Show’s audience received another gift (not counting the parade and the recreations of famous movie lines): mangoes.

According to Carrey, mangoes are one of his artistic inspirations. “I just decided to concentrate on mangoes,” he said. For him, a mango is “one symbol, one thing that can be sweet, lovely, abundant. I decided every month in 2020 would be May and the trees filled with mangoes.” The actor shared his love of the fruit with the audience, declaring that there were literal boxes of the fruit for everyone.

The comedian then, in Oprah-like fashion, jumped up and told Colbert’s audience that everyone would be receiving that positive, relief-inducing fruit after the show. Colbert confirmed that in fact there were “boxes of mangoes for everybody.

Carrey’s latest project was starring as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic The Hedgehog, the movie which was roasted for the titular character’s initial design.
