Joel Cooper makes elaborate origami masks like magical tessellated art pieces

Joel Cooper is an origami artist currently based in Lawrence, Kansas. He folds simple sheets of paper and makes elaborate masks and tessellated shapes out of them. What makes his creations amazing is that these are three-dimensional constructions showcasing complex geometries and abstract formations which make any audience forget that they are made from a single sheet of paper.

The material he uses is hand-painted, stained or dyed and treated to make sure that the resulting product is durable enough to display for long periods. Since he doesn’t use any glue or cut the paper at all, one would think that Cooper’s paper origami are work of magic. It may very well be! But unlike any magician, he doesn’t keep his technique to himself as he even shares some how-to through his Flickr page. You can follow Joel on his blog. His works can also be found on Etsy.
