Just a box of sanitary pads

UNsanitary pads is a brand designed to raise awareness on the fact that 1 in 10 women in UK cannot afford real sanitary products for their period.

Launched by social enterprise Hey Girls UK, UNsanitary pads is an impact action to show the shocking reality that thousands of girls and women are not able to pay for something so necessary.

This is not a real product, but it’s a real problem.

This campaign complaint that girls are forced to use unsanitary items such as old socks, newspaper or loo roll, instead of safe sanitary wear.

“Period poverty simply shouldn’t be an issue in the UK today. It seriously affects lives and is simply unacceptable.” – Celia Hodson (Hey Girls founder)

The new brand created by Hey Girls UK and adam&eveDDB launched in Asda on the 15th Feb, complete with a fully integrated online and offline communication & DOOH campaign shot by photographer Em Cole.

The packaging is very appealing and has a luxury style in contrast with the items inside.

The problem is both economic and hygienic.Female sanitary supplies are taxed as luxury non-essential items, but without a correct menstrual care there is a high risk of infections and medical complications.

The logo and typography for UNsanitary pads indeed is inspired by the shape of a classic pad, and the box linings were based on patterns of ‘Cocci’ bacteria – one of the side effects of using unhygienic pad replacements.
