Kimpton Saint George in Toronto Is a Mix-and-Match of Eras

Toronto-based interior design firm Mason Studio have unveiled their latest project, Kimpton Saint George, in the Annex neighborhood of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Kimpton Saint George Hotel is an exhibition of Mason Studio’s understanding of layered identities. The interior design does not conform to a specific style or geographical place, but instead celebrates the different sensibilities that make up Toronto’s history.

Reception area

Upon entering into the reception area, guests will see a hand-painted mural of a misty, Toronto-inspired landscape. The reception opens up into a hotel lobby that is designed to feel like a living room, with dark maroon shades on the couches and curtains for a posh yet comfortable vibe.

Arches play a key role in the hotel’s design. The series of wooden arches replicated throughout the 14-story hotel serve as a consistent visual guide as guests encounter different architectural styles and eras.

Hotel’s Living Room area

Dark and saturated tones make up the 400 square foot lounge on the main floor outside the meeting room, so as to lend the large space a sense of intimacy and privacy. Much of the bespoke furniture, artwork, lighting, and objects were crafted right in Toronto to pay homage to local designers.

The sense of timelessness in the hotel, which was achieved by playing with objects from various eras and styles, continues in the private suites. The furniture, lighting, and art is custom designed to look as if it were “seemingly collected over time.”
