Laser-cut wood assembled into extravagant mandala-like sculptures

Using precisely laser-cut 1/8″ pieces of  mahogany plywood, Gabriel Schama creates detailed wall relief sculptures. The Oakland-based artist creates his patterns in a vector illustration program which are then cut out in wood with his laser-printer. After Schama collects the plywood he assembles the pieces and glues them by hand.

The result of his complex process are 3D mandala-like patterns that weave, overlap, and intersect in a beautiful composition. Below is Schama’s newest work that he produced after his successful Kickstarter project. To see all of his magnificent work, head to his website.
