Spend your Saturday evenings with world-renowned artists performing everything from Indigenous music to the latest sounds from Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, and Los Angeles! This year, Latin Sounds is presented Saturday evenings from July 2 through September 3.
This week, join us for a concert with Justo Almario and his Afro-Colombian Ensemble.
Reedman, composer, and arranger Justo Almario has fused Latin, Afro-Cuban, South American, funk, and jazz genres into his own humble offering. Almario studied at the prestigious Berklee School of Music before joining Mongo Santamaria and becoming the band’s musical director. Almario formed the Colombian All Star band to celebrate the folk music from his native Colombia. Almario has performed with Freddie Hubbard, Roy Ayers, George Duke, Tito Puente, Machito, Dave Grusin, Alex Acuna, and Abraham Laboriel, and he was featured on clarinet and saxophone in the recent Disney film Encanto.
