In August 2018, LEGO launched its first ever set of sustainable elements made from a plant-based material sourced from sugarcane. The innovative idea is a step in the right direction towards the brand’s ultimate goal to produce all of their products and packaging with sustainable materials by 2030. Just a few months since the launch, LEGO has already released their first LEGO Creator Expert set that utilizes the eco-friendly pieces—a fully functional, mini wind turbine.

The kit contains 826 pieces that together make up a 3-foot wind turbine with adjustable wind blades. Just below the constructed turbine, a woodland house with a working porch light is nestled among LEGO’s “Plants from Plants” spruce trees. There’s even three LEGO servicemen minifigures and a LEGO dog. The set comes with a Power Function medium motor, battery box, and two extension cords—all of which are cleverly hidden in the final build. The kit was designed in partnership with Vestas, a world-leading provider of sustainable energy solutions, that has installed 65,000 wind turbines in almost 80 countries. The toy design celebrates play and creativity while raising awareness for sustainability and renewable energy.

The LEGO Vestas® Wind Turbine will be available to buy online and in stores from 23 November, 2018.
