Leprosy from an artist’s perspective: How one disease can change the lives of so many

George Butler is a talented illustrator and storyteller. His recent trip to a hospital in Nepal has given him much to tell and illustrate, but the real art has taken place inside his mind and heart.

Leprosy is one of the biggest killers over the years. The ones who are affected the most are the poor. The sad truth is that over 200,000 new cases were reported in 2015 alone. Leprosy is very hard to acquire and easy to treat – that’s the good news.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

Thanks to good samaritans like Working Hands – a Bristol-based charity run by hand surgeon Donald Sammut – patients in places like Lalgadh are treated pro bono.

See Butler’s sketches and paintings of actual patients, hospitals, surgeries, and medical staff from his visit to Nepal below.
