London exhibit pays tribute to father of modern design

Tom Eckersley is known for creating the first undergraduate design course in 1954 and moving design away from commercial art toward more conceptual references. His work is being recognized by The London College of Communications who is exhibiting a selection of Eckersley’s posters created for organizations across England.

The posters, like “Greetings” shown below, demonstrate a shift in design from commercial art to design with meaning. The retro feel and sharp colors in Eckersley’s work give insight into the happenings and styles of the distant past. A move from elaborate art to meaningful, simple design is evident in each piece.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

The show is open at the The London College of Communications until January 29th, 2014.
