Hipsters, artists, and free-thinkers alike anticipate the annual artistic assembly in Nevada’s the Black Rock Desert that is the Burning Man. If you’re living under a rock and still not yet acquainted with this global event, here’s a quick summary: Faithful fans and devotees gather together in the middle of nowhere to make awesome art installations, music, and spiritual connections. A giant main worshipping edifice is erected in the middle of it all and is burnt to the ground 9 days later, hence, the “burning man.”
This year’s theme “Radical Ritual” is described by the Burning Man team as “an attempt to reinvent ritual in our post post-modern world.” Since art installation has become a massive distinction of the gathering, the focal point of this year’s Burning Man is to center on observatories that promote the marriage of faith, personal beliefs, and creative play. “Such play, as we conceive it, breaks down the distinction that divides belief from make-believe,” claims the team.
