As climate change continues to deteriorate many parts of the globe, more and more people are coming forward to share their own opinions about the problematic choices of man on nature. In fact, the art industry has seen an increase in concern with regards to the matter. Mary Iverson, a Seattle-based artist, is just one of the few people who has recently joined the advocacy.
Through her oil paintings, Iverson portrays the relationship between man and nature. While her works celebrate the coexistence of the two elements, she is also quick to point out the many complicated courses of action that man has implicated on nature. With the use of an X-Acto knife, she cuts through her original paintings of serene nature to add geometric shapes that depict man’s urge to destroy the natural surroundings with intrusive structures.

According to Iverson, climate change can be reversed by investing in “renewable energy instead of fossil fuel extraction infrastructure” – a concept that can be seen throughout her oil creations.
