Masami Teraoka’s art: a fusion of American and Japanese influences that explore real life issues

Masami Teraoka has gained a loyal following of fans, critics, and fellow artists alike because of his impressive work. Teraoka’s art greatly showcases his Japanese roots while simultaneously exploring the influence of daily American (Western) culture. He has been celebrated throughout the years, thanks to the imagery and painting techniques which he employs, boasting of his rich knowledge and expertise with the traditional artform.

Over the years, he has tackled controversial issues such as the Western obsession with commercialization, AIDS awareness, eroticism, globalization, politics, abuse in the Catholic Church, and the plight of the Pussy Riot Girls. His art is always elegant and meticulously crafted with an intensive attention to detail. His subject matter is in turns poignantly serious and playfully humorous. Nevertheless, no matter how touchy his subjects are, his art remains beautiful, elegant, and classy. You will have to dig deep to find the humor and politics – merely looking will give you nothing but a milieu of poignancy.
