Massive artificial island built “off the grid” near Vancouver Island

When you realize that you will never be able to afford a decent piece of real estate, what do you do? You build an island. At least that’s Catherine King and Wayne Adams have done.

Their artificial island, called “Freedom Cove”, is located about 45 minutes off the coast of Vancouver Island via boat. It’s made up of 12 tethered compartments that incorporate four greenhouses, living quarters, a kitchen, workshop, art gallery, a lighthouse and heck, even a dance floor. What more could you want?

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

Weighing in at approx. 500 tons, according to Adams, everything was constructed using a handsaw and hammer. No power tools! Great Big Story profiled the duo’s efforts in a roughly two-minute long video titled, “Off the Grid on a Homemade Island”. Check it out!
