Show Notes
Expectations –
-what we assume people want to see
-based on what already exists (it’s not always bad, but can be detrimental to your creative spirit if you just rinse and repeat, look at most movies today!)
-based on what “works”
-forces you to try to plan and predict creative outcomes
-Even though we KNOW that thinking outside the box results in creative innovation, we stay safe inside the box of expectations
-comfort zone
Genuine creativity – Outside the box
-risk taking vulnerability, approaching something with curiosity
-you can’t plan or predict the outcomes (that’s the beautiful part)
-You trust the process and give your creative input as it’s happening
-what people actually resonate with (assuming you want your art to connect with people, if not, this point doesn’t/shouldn’t matter)
Why we fear leaving the expectation box – as humans;
-we want to be in control (curating a specific outcome)
-we want to be admired
-we fear that our artwork will be judged (ALL artwork on the internet will get lost in the ever-flowing stream anyway, so nothing to worry about)
Creativity is augmented with a healthy balance of the following;
inspiration – what you like to see personally
observation – what is real (insert morpheus meme)
imagination – dreaming while you’re awake
