Tell us a little bit about yourself and your creative practice

I’m a London based artist, who attempts to explore symbolism, myths and narratives with characters set in timeless spaces as a means of understanding my own intellectual and ontological journey, I think. Maybe my work isn’t as cerebral as I think it is but hopefully the pictures are pretty?

What themes run through your work?

Currently I’m coming out of exploring pleasure and hedonism, with maybe a few more pieces in me with a salacious tone. Since summer 2020 given the state of the world with COVID the crazy social political turmoil and climate crises, my work is starting to reflect that more. Being a bit less insular in terms of a narrative only I understand and being more journalistic with definitive queries and opinions.

Have you been working on anything new in your studio recently? If so, can you tell us a little about your inspiration…

I’ve been learning some new painting techniques and like I said in the previous answer, trying to reflect a more social view in my work. But at the time of this interview, the new work is still percolating and incubating in my mind. So by the fair launch, you should get to see some things.

Can you tell us about the character ‘Od’, who appears in some of your artworks?

Od, well he’s a character I created in Uni back around 2011/2012ish. I found the word Od when reading some book on metaphysics and it had a cool meaning so when making stories, he was the main character in the little universes I was concocting. As my work drifted from pure illustration to a more fine art leaning, I kept him as a character and main vehicle of exploration, but now he isn’t always a He and isn’t always an abstract entity exploring something but the personification of an idea.

What was the best advice given to you as an artist?

Erm, I can’t really remember anything too profound or prolific being told to me about my practice. I got tidbits of knowledge from different creative friends about materials or mediums and probably by way of some creative osmosis, siphoned the relevant knowledge I needed through being around artists.
