Monumental structures created using hundreds of sticks of gum

Kaplan’s latest project, “Unwrapped”, is comprised of sticks of chewing gum piled on top of one another to create monumental structures. The sticks of gum criss-cross and create pyramids and other colorful architectural forms. With very little digital editing, Kaplan wanted to capture the 3D forms created by the gum, rather than the gum itself.

He adds, “I also wanted a high level of malleability and after a lot of trial and error I landed on gum. I have always been interested in futurist and Mayan architecture, and this project was a way to combine both of those to make new forms.”
