Museum of Modern Art offers free online course on New York School

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has opened a free online course on the materials and approaches of key figures of the New York School, the abstract expressionist painting movement that blossomed after World War II.

The course “In the Studio: Postwar Abstract Painting,” now available on Coursera, provides studio demos and gallery tours featuring the works of Willem de Kooning, Yayoi Kusama, Agnes Martin, Barnett Newman, Jackson Pollock, Ad Reinhardt, and Mark Rothko, the forerunners of the New York School.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

The goal of the course is to allow the students to understand and learn the dynamics of studio practice as developed and performed by the said figures, as well as provide reading materials that explain the historical and intellectual circumstances in which the artists worked.

“In the Studio: Postwar Abstract Painting” is taught by artist and technical art historian Corey D’Augustine.
