Some artists create an icon and believe in its message so strongly that they make it over and over for years. Some wildly popular artists like Jeff Koons and Kaws have built their careers using this type of vision and now Manfred Kielnhofer is joining the parade with his ‘Guardians of Time.’
The ‘Guardians of Time’ are mysterious hooded figures set in public places. They are large enough for people to climb on them and even in them if you can squeeze into their hollow interiors. Austrian artist Kielnhofer made the first of the Guardians in 2006 and they have since taken dozens of forms and traveled the world. Most recently, the hooded figures appeared in different settings around the 2014 Festival of Lights in Berlin.
