Neurosurgeon uses his skills and patience to paint on itty-bitty objects

Penny, a former neurosurgeon turned stencil artist, painstakingly makes intricate miniature art on everyday objects. Using a scalpel and spray paint to produce his prints. He meticulously cuts his stencils using the skills and patience he learned as a surgeon. Each work can take hundreds of hours to finish.

The canvases for his art range from pound notes to postage stamps to cigarette butts to food coupons. Penny says that he’s “interested in [the] juxtaposition of the industrial with the organic, playing with scale, the subtle subversion of reality and the creation of narrative within the inanimate.”
