NEXT architect’s looping bridge in China

In a major effort to develop Changsha Meixi Lake’s new lake district in China, an international bridge design competition was held. The winning design was drafted up by Beijing and Amsterdam-based architects NEXT and will have a total span of 150 meters with a height of 24 meters.

Construction will begin next year on the seemingly endless loopy bridge across the Dragon King Harbor River. The pedestrian bridge will span the length of the river, offering its users unique views of each level. Inspiration was taken from the Möbius Strip, a twisting surface that loops back onto itself, as well as from ancient Chinese folk art.
