With the help of UK-based design firm Studio Hardie, Nissan has created a mobile workshop that would be any craftsman’s dream. They pulled off the ultimate van conversion by transforming a Nissan NV300 into a fully functional woodworking laboratory on wheels. Filled with innovative design touches, the concept van demonstrates the versatility of Nissan’s vehicles, as well as their sustainable outlook.

The cargo area is filled with innovative storage solutions driven by Studio Hardie’s own experiences as designers and craftsmen. “The designs for the tool storage came from years of site work, thinking about how we work, what tool you want where,” shares Will Hardie, founder of the firm. Built on a grid system, the interior is set up in a rational manner that allows for quick access and organization.

A swivel chair built on rails, an integrated touch-screen computer, and an LED ceiling increase the functionality of the space and prove just how well the NV300 adapts to professionals in any sector. The mobile workshop is also sustainable, thanks to the integration of Nissan Energy ROAM portable batteries.

These waterproof, emission-free, and silent power sources provide more than enough juice to power up all the tools in the van. The second life batteries, which are recovered from Nissan LEAF electric vehicles, have a storage capacity of 700Wh and maximum power output of 1k. By implementing solar panels for charging on the roof of the van, the workshop is a true self-contained system.

This isn’t the first time that Nissan and Studio Hardie have collaborated. In 2016, Studio Hardie converted a Nissan NV200 electric van into a mobile office. By continuing their partnership, they’re demonstrating the incredible flexibility of these vehicles and opening the public’s eyes to new possibilities by redefining the idea of workspaces.
