Have you ever been so infatuated with someone to the point where you just want to devour them head to toe? Maybe not, but if you have experienced this urge you’ll appreciate Japanese animation director and illustrator Sawako Kabuki‘s music video for funk singer Shinsuke Sugahara‘s “Master Blaster.” In the very first scene, a pale, redheaded woman slides out of the butthole of a neckless pink humanoid character, gripping onto its waist as she stands on two feet. Interpret this as you will, but Kabuki describes the short video as a reflection of “the desire to hide in the rectum of the person you like (in other words, wanting to be together forever).”
Much like Kabuki’s previous work on Japanese short films like Anal Juke -anal juice- and Summer’s Puke is Winter’s Delight, “Master Blaster” is filled with phallic innuendo and surreal performances of bizarre sex acts. Kabuki’s brightly colored simple outlines resemble the work of animators like Yan Dan Wong and Lori Malepart-Traversy. Within the short video’s four-minute run time, the animator unloads a whirlwind of emotions. The expressive choreography and movement of her characters convey a sense of yearning, possessiveness, jealousy, and guilt. Check out “Master Blaster” in its entirety, below:
