Taste of the Upper West Side—brand identity development and graphic design by Shanti Sparrow.

Shanti Sparrow is an award-winning Australian designer and illustrator who currently lives and works in New York City. She was commissioned to produce a unique brand identity for Taste of the Upper West Side, an annual food tasting event presented by the Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District. The aim of the event is to showcase the significance and diversity of this beloved neighbourhood’s culinary community by featuring over 80 chefs from the Upper West Side’s best restaurants. Running for two nights, the annual festival attracts more than 3,500 guests and invites new restaurants each year.

Shanti Sparrow is well known for her striking and eye-catching approach to design. That’s why she was asked to create a unique brand experience for the event. Her solution for Taste of the Upper West Side is based on the idea of cooking and baking is as much science as it is some kind of art. The overall design refers to the look of art exhibitions, while the graphics are inspired by abstract minimalism. A selection of images can be found below. More of Shanti Sparrow’s work can be seen on her website.
