Very often adults write children off as little daredevils, attention seekers, and kiddos who don’t really understand the world just yet. When in reality, they are some of the brightest minds and most honest souls in this world. And the internet’s beloved project Live From Snack Time is here to celebrate that.
Created by NYC school teacher Alyssa Cowit and Greg Dunbar, a digital marketing manager with Walt Disney Studios, Live From Snack Time has amassed 669k followers on Instagram and 64k on Facebook. It features kids’ quotes that teachers and parents submitted from all around the world, and they are either the most wholesome thing you’ll read today, or something so hilarious you will burst out laughing.

In our previous interview with Alyssa and Greg, the creators of Live From Snack Time, we found that the project started as an account for parents and teachers to highlight the brilliant and hilarious thoughts of kids. 7 years later, it has become an international hub for people to submit kids’ quotes and seek out the account for laughter, honesty, and joy.

“During the pandemic when people had more time with their families, we saw an abundance of quote submissions and new followers hit our account. In a time of so much uncertainty and sadness and fear I think people looked to us for light humor and relatable content,” Alyssa and Greg told us a year ago.

Moreover, Live From Snack Time partnered with a family in the UK (Woodism_Ink) who create art based on their Autistic son’s amazing quotes. “This helped bring awareness and acceptance for Autism and raised money for an important charity,” the creators said and added that they were planning to do more of this and were looking for other opportunities to connect people and shed light on important issues and understandings that can start young.

The success of the LFST project has to do with the fact that it brings parents, educators and the little ones together from all over the world. “With submissions from 6 continents (c’mon Antarctica!), we have living proof that kids are talking about the same topics and have similar questions around the world, especially when it comes to the pandemic. From the quotes that came in, it was clear that kids missed their friends, wanted to beat (or ‘beat up’) the virus, and some weren’t afraid to tell their parents they were a little sick of all the time they were spending together! We are all more similar than people realize, and the mission, brand, and content are universal and dynamic.”

When Alyssa first started tweeting fun quotes her students would say, she could have never imagined the account would soon become a viral sensation. “I thought it would be funny to call it ‘Live from Snack Time’ because it sounds like live news. It was just a Twitter and I followed some of my friends, and some of my teacher friends. I was like, ‘Oh they would like it,’ and I followed my mom.”

Meanwhile, Greg Dunbar, the co-author, asked “‘Can I add graphics to these Tweets?’ and Alyssa thought people would find it funny, not just teachers and parents. “‘I think that you have something here, can I be your partner on this and make some pictures with it?’ I thought, ‘Sure, if you think its funny, go for it.’”
