Onassis Stegi Returns to Pedion Areos Park With Plásmata: Bodies, Dreams, and Data

In a series of curated journeys unfolding through Pedion tou Areos (Athens’s largest public park), Plásmata: Bodies, Data, and Dreams brings together site-specific installations inviting visitors to explore the body — individual, collective, human, non-human, or planetary — and how technology and technologically-constructed worlds are shaping, affecting, and impacting our bodies, identities, and sense of place.

We experience, perceive, move, think, feel, and explore the world with and through our bodies. However, as technology has become so deeply entrenched in our lives, it is changing how we behave, interact, and regard ourselves, as well as the way others perceive us. Our bodies are measured against societal expectations presented through technological worlds, advertising, and social platforms; they are constantly surveilled, objectified, measured, and quantified, while certain bodies are valued more than others.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

The “plásmata*” one encounters here reveals a view of the human experience as a blending of material and immaterial, organic and machinic, human and non-human, social and physical. Can these imaginaries, hybrid forms of human, animal, plant, bacteria, and other species, and fluid and flexible identities help us envision post-anthropocentric perspectives that enable kinship, equity, and relationships across all forms of life, a collective and interconnected body?
