Grace Kim, Wearable Technology Designer
Grace Kim is a San Francisco based wearable technology designer. She currently teaches wearable technology workshops in the Bay Area. Her work centers on incorporating traditional crafts such as embroidery, knitting, applique, and sewing, into circuitry.
Mo Akade and Mike Duong, TinkerTags co-Founders
Mo Akade grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and studied architecture and history at Yale University. She then went on to teach middle school and high school humanities courses using a project-based approach. She likes designing technology-mediated solutions that bridge gaps between formal and informal learning environments.

Mike Duong grew up in LA and studied computer science at Stanford. He is passionate about applying his technical skills to provide innovative opportunities to help kids learn. His main interests are in STEM, but in general, education has been core to Mike’s life. He’s a first-generation college student who hopes to achieve the American dream and enjoys giving back to the community.
Mo and Mike met while they were graduate students in the Learning, Design, and Technology Master’s program at Stanford University. They’re excited to see all of the cool things you’ll be creating with TinkerTags!
Shelten Yuen, Director of R&D at Fitbit, Inc.
Shelten works on technologies that help people lead more active and healthy lives. He has over 10 years of experience as a programmer, engineer, and scientist. As the Director of R&D at Fitbit, he oversees development in new hardware, sensors, and algorithms in wearable computing. As a founding engineer of Fitbit, Shelten developed the core algorithms in the Fitbit trackers. Before that, Shelten was at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and Agilent Technologies. He received a B.S. in electrical engineering from UC Davis, a S.M. in applied mathematics from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in engineering sciences from Harvard University.
Young Makers Team Folktails: Sydney Murphy and Ksenia Medvedev
Sydney and Ksenia, both age 10, enjoy art and joined Young Makers to try expanding their creative efforts into more technologically challending areas. They are creating a realistic, wearable and swimable mermaid tail — essentially a prosthetic to let a human be half-fish. They hope to have a chance to swim with it at Maker Faire.
Rick Schertle, Maker Moderator
Rick has taught middle school language arts and social studies the past 20 years in San Jose where he lives with his wife and young son and daughter. As a kid, he and his dad tinkered at many things and become experts as none, but had a lot of fun along the way. Trying to practice what he teaches, Rick writes for MAKE Magazine and several projects he designed for the magazine include the Compressed Air Rocket (Volume 15) and Folding Wing Glider (Volume 31). Joined by thousands around the world, this past summer Rick kicked off Maker Camp at the New York Hall of Science. Rick brings high flying rocket fun to Maker Faire every year and along with his wife and kids, loves all things that fly. Along with making stuff, Rick and his family enjoy ultra-budget world travel which has taken them all over Europe, North Africa, Southeast Asia and Central America.
