Open Source Gallery’s Art Auction Is Open for Bidding

Recently described by Hock E Aye Vi Edgar Heap of Birds as an “outlaw” space, Open Source Gallery presents free exhibitions, programs, and art education. Their annual art auction has kicked off, presenting over 60 works of art by NYC-based and international artists including Jody Wood, Tahir Karmali, Daniel Zeller, George Ferrandi, Zé Kielwagen, Francesco Simeti, and Nicholas Galanin. This year’s auction features an eclectic collection of works spanning photography, painting, prints, and ceramics, reflecting the gallery’s commitment to supporting and promoting artists who engage with the world around them in surprising ways, subverting expectations and sparking new understandings of nature, society, and the self.

Silent auction bidding and “buy now” options are now open and will close on December 10th when the works will be on display during the gala, giving interested collectors a chance to view the works in person and a last chance to bid on available works.

A welcome addition this year is Open Source Gallery’s 5 Things To Think About When Buying Art, an insightful guide by independent curator Michele Jaslow, that pays homage to past auctions and supports engagement in this unique art-collecting opportunity.

With support from this event, the gallery will be able to present solo exhibitions next year by Jody Wood, Monika Drozynska, Zé Kielwagen, Grace Sachi Troxell, and Marlene Hausegger. The auction proceeds will also support the organization’s education initiative, KoKo NYC, where all kids are artists and inventors.
