Orbit phone is a conceptual project idealized to test new interactions and materials possibilities for the smartphone market.
Designer Lucas Couto conceptualizes a model which is probably close in predicting an iPhone 12 or 13 – depending on how long the company draws out improvements, or the throwing in of X, Y or Z models.
The bezel-less design was thought to bring a notion of transparency to the phone in-sync with the possibility of having one of the cameras working all the time, projecting image in the interface’s background, simulating how could it be to have a transparent phone.
Orbit phone uses a flexible OLED screen combined with a ductile enclosure to deliver a near-unbreakable smartphone to the user. This technology allows the front camera to be visible when needed.
The model, which clearly takes a lot of its design cues from the iPhone, has no headphone jack which, no doubt because of Apple’s recent introduction of wireless airpods. And in what is an appropriate prediction for their future generations, the charging port has also been removed, allowing the phone to be thinner and lighter.
A circular flash was designed to deliver variations of light intensity and to create the “ring flash eye effect” in the eyes of those being photographed.
