Overwhelmingly pink sculptures made from chewing gum

Using chewing gum, artist Maurizio Savini makes sculptures of people and animals that are all the iconic gum-pink color. He has been working with the strange medium for over a decade and has two full-time assistants who help him unwrap and heat each piece. The sculptures begin as hard plaster shells, which get covered with the gum, creating the color, texture, and details of his work.

Savini often makes work with politically or socially driven messages and it has taken the form of business men clutching pillows, chandeliers, women’s shoes, and so much more. Although Savini says he is tired of people asking him if he chews each piece himself (that would be insane), the answer is… no.
