According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration 95% of the underwater world remains unexplored. Jeabyun Yeon is looking to change this with his innovative concept design for an underwater oxygen respirator. If produced, the ‘Triton Oxygen Respirator‘ will allow a human to swim around the deep blue free of an oxygen tank.
Yeon developed his technology to work similar to the gills of a fish. Water flows through a filter that works by allowing oxygen to pass through it, while stopping the larger H2O molecules. While submerged, a user simply bits down on a mouth piece to activate a flow of compressed oxygen that is removed directly from the water.

This technology has many obstacles to hurdle before, if ever, we see a working prototype. Swimming freely around the ocean is an incredible fantasy to come true in our lifetime, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed!
