On view through June 12, PNCA’s 2022 MFA Thesis Exhibition is ambitious in scope, spanning three exhibition spaces and encompassing immersive installations, textile explorations, and participatory projects; large-scale paintings, experimental photography, and intermedia objects; video and sound works, performance, and design projects.
Throughout the past two years of uncertainty, uprising, and crisis occurring in Portland and in the world at large, these artists, designers, and makers formed networks of care. This cohort of MFA candidates learned flexibility and adaptability under shifting circumstances and proved that art is a means of resilience and survival. This exhibition is more than the individual works on display; it represents the “care webs” formed between students, faculty, and mentors, along with their processes, materials, plants, and animals. We can learn from these artists how to make a present and future that is restorative and fosters more radical vulnerability, creativity, and interdependence.
