People Cooped Up at Home are Making Chair Models Using Household Items #IsolationChair

The “Isolation Chair” hashtag has gone viral. If you’ve not heard of it, it resembles a first-year Industrial Design school assignment: Grab some random materials and quickly assemble them into the likeness of a chair.

It started because during the social lockdown, Barcelona-based furniture designer Max Enrich wanted to do what many designers do: Make something. “I wanted to build something, and I thought about starting with a chair, but I couldn’t find even a wood strip or rod, or a bit of clay around,” he told Sight Unseen. “And then I realized you can represent…the idea of a chair with almost anything.”
