Photographer dad explores new frontiers with 10 astro-kid portraits

Columbus, Ohio based photographer Aaron Sheldon has turned his lens towards his son in a series that he calls Small Steps are Giant Leaps. Focusing on mostly mundane activities, he captures his tiny astronaut during a grocery shopping trip, waiting for a haircut, and watching a movie.

We have previously written about another set of photographs where people wore space suits in ordinary situations. While for adults, space travel can be a metaphor to speak to one’s hopes and dreams, space travel for kids is about “exploring new frontiers”. The photographer explains on his Kickstarter page, “As adults we spend our days rushing around, going places we don’t like and doing things we don’t want to do.  It can be tough to remember that, for our kids, this is an entirely different world.  My son spends his days exploring new and exciting places right here on Earth.”
