Arranged as a mosaic, photos of windows from a single location can take on a visual theme. The city’s aesthetic and cultural icons can reveal themselves through the repetition.
Portuguese photographer André Vicente Gonçalves has compiled thousands of photographs of individual windows to build his Windows of the World photo collage series. “When I’m photographing, I give a lot of importance to the small details,” Goncalves says. He adds, “I find it amusing that a small piece of glass between the interior and exterior of a house gives us the feeling of security.”
