Photography installation pays homage to Ellis Island

Famed street artist JR is bringing his art to one of the most historic places in the states. Installed on the south side buildings at Ellis Island, ‘Unframed’ is a series of life-sized photographs printed on vinyl wraps that JR will post on more than 16 of the buildings’ interior walls.

This exhibit is part of Save Ellis Island, a group that is trying to preserve the south side of the island, which consists of 29 buildings that once made up the hospitals that were used to treat immigrants. The photographs pay homage to the 12 million people that passed through Ellis Island.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

According to Save Ellis Island, “the artist’s intent is to evoke a sense of time and place and give context to the human lives that were touched by their time at Ellis Island.”
