Artist Duy Anh Nhan Duc has incorporated plant material into portraiture to create striking images. Working with photographer Isabelle Chapuis, the duo of French artists have produced the series of photographs below and an accompanying video.
Adorning bodies with flowers and other vegetation, the images hint at a kind of selective costumery. They take the human figure beyond its skin surface to create imagined exteriors. In the images, we see dandelion seeds become a subtle veil over a female model’s face. We also see chrysanthemum petals become a potent, lion-like mask that frames the model’s eyes.
