For her latest photo series ‘Candy,’ Los Angeles-based photographer Lucia Loiso has reconstructed the form and function of sweets by melting them into edible sculptures that resemble strange plants, flowers and leaves. Hard candy was manipulated in its sticky, gooey form, then photographed against stark lights and colorful backgrounds to create something abstract yet strangely appealing.
A cross between surrealistic still life photography and Willy Wonka’s wildest dreams, the series manages to capture the textures, colors, and addictiveness of such sugary confections in alien new ways. Would you be willing to eat these strange candy plants? See more from the series at Loiso’s website.
