This rare book opens in six different ways, revealing six different books inside. It comes from the Rogge Library in Strängnäs, Sweden and contains texts printed in Germany during the 1550s and 1570s. One notable ‘book’ inside is Martin Luther’s “Der kleine Catechismus.”
Each of the books is held with its own ornate metal clasp, and was probably far more decorative than useful. With the advent of iPads and eReaders, we almost forget the craftsmanship that once went into book and cover design.
