This last weekend, the hauntingly beautiful Aron Wiesenfeld show at Arcadia Contemporary closed its two week run. Natural Selection featured a new body of work from the San Diego-based artist, rendered expertly as usual and steeped with an air of mystery. His characters are typically portrayed by themselves in a desolate, dark setting or perhaps in some expansive natural environment where the viewer is drawn into some suspenseful narrative that they aren’t quite sure of. There is a feeling of not-quite-rightness and an atmospheric tension to each piece that speaks to the Wiesenfeld’s talent for creating intrigue and activating our imaginations.
