There’s no denying there are certain tropes, specific artistic conceptions, in horror genre illustration. Horror themes are frequently swiped and reused from one publication to another, at least in concept if not the actual art itself. Flashbak has a series of examples of these tropes, arranged by category. Having looked at them, I see things that I really hadn’t noticed before, even though I have read many of the examples cited.
