Release/Benefit: Banksy – ‘Fragile/Agile’

Continuing his support for humanitarian causes around the globe, Banksy is releasing a new screen print in partnership with Giles Duley’s Legacy of War Foundation. The proceeds will help those directly impacted by Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine by allowing the Foundation to purchase ambulances and generators as the country heads into the harsh winter months.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

The image features a white mouse whose claw marks, individually made by Banksy with a sharpened pizza cutter, have obscured the first two letters of the work ‘fragile’. The word play could be seen as both a comment on the Foundation’s light-footed response helping vulnerable civilians in the Ukraine and a reference to the tenacity of the country’s people and armed forces; before the war started it was assumed by many that they would be overpowered by the Russian military but, instead, they have proven themselves to be increasingly tenacious and resilient.

Banksy recounts: ”In Ukraine I saw a Legacy of War team sweep in and provide medical attention, heaters, fresh water and a friendly face to some very desperate people in a bombed out building. They also lent me one of their ambulances to work from, which turned out to be extremely useful when an angry babushka found me painting on her building and called the Police. I feel the least I should do is raise enough money to replace the number plates on the ambulance I hotted up…”

Each print is signed, numbered from an edition of 50, float mounted in a wood frame and costs £5000. Anyone interested in being in with a chance of buying a copy has until 12pm GMT on Friday 16th December to register their interest here and information about Legacy of War Foundation’s Ukraine Crisis Response can be found here.
