Religious texts become living words in sculptures

Meg Hitchcock is no stranger to typography and sculpture. Her work has been influenced by religious text and her latest is no exception.

After dissecting thousands of individual letters from religious texts, Hitchcock produces dynamic sculptures in the form of figures and scarves. With careful attention paid to contours and line weight, the works seem to pop out at the viewer.

Hitchcock shares her inspiration, “A long history in evangelical Christianity formed my core beliefs about God and transcendence, but I later relinquished the Christian path. I now gravitate toward Eastern Mysticism, and am deeply moved by Islam.” Check out some of her latest pieces below and find more on her website.
