Retro67 A Building Between Past And Future

In Beirut Andrea Vattovani Architecture designs a new building Retro67 that communicates its strong relation to the city.
The project starts with a research of the surroundings, “because every place has a unique story to tell either because of the context or rich cultural background.” Beirut is very sunny and people tend to protect their flats and balcony from direct light and heat. For this reason, many flats take after form of sunshade. But also quite green balconies with a lot of plants and/or nature that has taken over the manmade structures.
Retro67 was developed by Archstone Capital alongside Masharii, an award winning Project Management company. The local architect has been the multidisciplinary firm for Architecture, Planning and Interior design Planbee.

The award winning studio specialized in architecture, urbanism, design as well as research Andrea Vattovani reinterpreted all these elements and add them to Retro67‘s design. Moreover the flat has a rounded corner to emphasize the shape of the building but it doesn’t act as a balcony. The flats are very modern and tend to use wall materials like concrete and brick to create a vintage/industrial style. The top floors become bigger penthouses developing the whole area on one floor.
Being an architect is a delicate and multifaceted task. And AVA knows well, as they aspire to create timeless architecture by reducing form, efficient and functional use of materials, at the same time remaining conscientious of costs. The studio is also part of the Creative Industries Styria, the same network of Designmonat Graz which promotes the development and the strengthening of creative activities.
