Revolutionary 2022 FIFA World Cup stadium design unveiled

Calling all soccer fans! Here’s something to get you even more excited for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Prominent architect Zaha Hadid and the global engineering firm AECOM have unveiled initial details for their massively modern FIFA World Cup stadium in Qatar. The Al-Wakrah stadium, set to begin construction in 2014, was inspired by the iconic Dhow Boats which can be seen often at Qatar’s harbors. Its curved shape is a vital part of the structure as it shelters spectators and athletes from the Sun while allowing passive cooling from within.

The arena will house 40,000 visitors which will be reduced to 20,000 following the conclusion of World Cup.
