The term “engineered wood” takes on a whole new meaning with London-based audio technology outfit Room One’s Surface wall audio speaker, the brainchild of designers Tom Jarvis and Oliver Staiano.

The subtle concave shape of the Surface evokes memories of skateboard decks – here, a little more round and portly, perhaps a less athletic, audiophile plywood relative – each wooden disk hiding transducer componetry, capable of converting the entire surface of stained layers of beech veneer into one large sculptural wireless speaker with the swipe and a tap of any music streaming app.
Being Bluetooth-enabled, streaming audio from nearly any wireless music source plays nice with the Surface. And even while off, each of the CNC milled speaker panel designs quietly work as a minimalist decorative piece, ready to surprise unexpected guests the next time they’re turned on.
Each Surface is hand assembled in a London workshop and available in three colors – Indigo, Rust, and Natural – for about $1,180.
