Rooms from famous paintings not only give an insight into the life and imagination of the artist who created them, but they’re also a window into the past. From Van Gogh’s humble interior from The Bedroom from 1888 to Roy Lichtenstein’s colorful Pop Art depiction of Interior with restful paintings from 1991, each iconic artwork gives viewers an idea of the decorating trends of the time. For their client Home Advisor, UK-based creative agency NeoMam reimagines these painterly interiors as if they’re real-life rooms.

“Paintings of historical interiors are fascinating hybrid images—midway between the work of a great artist’s imagination and a document of the past,” NeoMam explains. “This got us thinking, what did these household settings from famous paintings look like in the real world?”
The 6 rooms featured bring famous paintings from the last 200 years to life with CG technology. To create the realistic renditions, the team collaborated with specialist researcher Charlie Ashton, managing editor Jonathan Addy, CG artist and interior designer Andrey Barinov, and art director Povilas Daknys.
Wassily Kandinsky’s vibrant dining room is reimagined with a toned-down color palette, but it’s still full of the textures and shapes that make the original painting so inviting. For the CG render of Roy Lichtenstein’s dotty, 2D interior, the talented team created a 3D version using realistic-looking décor and a pair of vintage Lichtensteins on the wall.
