Chicken-mad Russian fashionistas are licking their lips this morning as poultry perfectionists KFC unveil their latest bit of promotional bumf: a limited edition bucket hat. That also doubles as a receptacle for…fried chicken.
In a move orchestrated by mega-agency Wieden + Kennedy, Colonel Sanders — an increasingly regular presence here on It’s Nice That — has decided to join forces with St. Petersburg-based streetwear brand Mam Cupy to design a hat that is, to all intents and purposes, a grease-free replica of one of KFC’s world famous thigh-filled buckets.

“The design repeats the look of the KFC iconic bucket, with its red and white stripes, complemented with KFC and Mam Cupy logos,” says a representative for W+K.
The hat — which likely wouldn’t look out of place at a festival over the summer — forms part of W+K Amsterdam’s current rebranding of KFC’s Russian operations.
Proving that advertising isn’t as easy as some people think it is, W+K Amsterdam copywriter Dasha Ovechkina and creative director Cal Al-Jorani are quoted in the press release that accompanies the hat’s arrival as saying, “For years we looked at a KFC bucket and wondered whether it would make a good hat…now we know.”
And it seems that even Colonel Sanders himself is savvy to skateboarding’s eternal appeal to the sartorially-minded with a penchant for tearing into a spicy, salty snack of deep fried chicken after a hard day of trying clothes on down the mall, having recruited skate photographer and filmmaker Arthur Couvat to shoot a short film that wouldn’t look out of place on i-D.
There are no plans to release the hat in the UK at the present moment, but if you’re based over in Russia and have ever found yourself gripped by a desire to show friends and family alike just how much you love the Colonel’s signature blend of 11 herbs and spices without having to present them with the slippery-fingered evidence, you’re in luck.
