Tokyo-based designer Ryuichi Kozeki, of RKDS, set out to explore the relationship between light and objects through his latest design, OCULUS. Kozeki chose to stay away from designs that focus on productivity and instead decided to rethink the importance of the original thing, a light, so he created these lights which double as modern objects.

By removing part of the overall mass, each lamp’s shape begins to take form based on how it was hollowed. By slightly changing it, the lamps take on unique silhouettes with varying gradations of light washing down the interiors into round pools of light on the floor. In addition to the three on the left, a radial light shaped object was created almost mimicking the primitive shape of lighting. While it won’t light up the room, it still emits beautiful light as part of the object.
